Thank You!!!

Thank You!!!

thank-you-note.jpg

I just want to take a minute and thank everyone who has supported me on this book project this year!

To those of you who have purchased a copy, THANK YOU!

To those of you who listened to God and sent money so that the words and pictures could become a book, THANK YOU!

To those of you who read and offered feedback, THANK YOU!

To those store owners who are carrying the book, THANK YOU!

To those of you who have donated books to local radio stations, hospitals and funeral homes, THANK YOU!

This time last year, I was not sure how this would all pan out…or if it would ever come to fruition.  Honestly, I could only see one step at a time.  The big picture overwhelmed me!

I am excited to see what God will do with this book in 2017.  And what other plans He has for our lives.

I wrote this book because God laid it on my heart.  I hope it will bless others who have an infant loss.  God directed each step of the way and confirmed those steps in amazing ways.  I don’t know what His plans are for this book or for me in 2017, but I am thankful to know Him.  And I trust Him.  More than ever!

You Can Donate Books!!!

You Can Donate Books!!!

Many of you have contacted me and said that while you don’t need a copy of this book, you would love to help get these books into the hands of grieving families who have experienced an infant or baby loss.

And I am excited to say that we can do that!

The way to donate books is:  You can purchase a book through me (use my PayPal link and in the comments box, let me know where you would like the books to be sent and how you would like the dedication to be made on the inside bookplate).

Here is the book plate I put in the front of the books that went to WMIT, 106.9 The Light Radio Station:

img_1849Books have also been donated to the Wilkes Regional Medical Center.  Here are the book plates I used for them:

These bookplates are a simple way to let the receiver of this book know that this book does not hold the opinions of the hospital staff and that they are not trying to force any religion on anyone.  The books is simply a gift to a grieving family.

This is a great opportunity for many reasons.  Since my books are “potentially offensive,” it is a great opportunity for us to put a Christian resource in the hands of grieving parents at an important crossroads in their lives.  I would never force my Christian beliefs on anyone, but I do pray that through my life and my words others will be drawn to the Lord and will understand how much He loves them.

So after much prayer and encouragement from different people (thank you guys for spurring me on…I can get a little too content in my bubble), I have gotten permission to donate these books to the following locations:

WMIT, 106.9 The Light (A local Christian radio station that houses certain books to be mailed to listeners who call in with prayer requests.  I Have a Brother books can be available to listeners who have had an infant/baby loss and are calling in with a prayer request after such.)

Brenner’s Children’s Hospital, Winston-Salem, NC – This is the hospital where Daniel was for two days and where he died.  I cannot say enough good things about this hospital and I am so thankful that we can minister there.  (Hopefully these books will be mailed later this week!)

Wilkes Regional Medical Center – This is a local hospital where I have a contact in the birthing center.  They have received a few books already.

If you would like to donate your books to another location, please let me know where (if you have a contact there, that would be fabulous), and I will be more than happy to work that out!  Just send me a message.  (I have a contact at Levine Children’s Hospital and hope to work that out soon.)

Thank you to everyone who has already donated books – I am so grateful for your support and pray that God will use this book to draw grieving families closer to Himself.

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith…Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess for he who promised is faithful.”  Hebrews 10:22a,23

Friday

Friday

So this Friday I had planned to post about the little lady who turned six this week or possibly even about the little ladies because I really like them a lot…that’s what I tell them.

“I sure do like you a lot.”

They have started responding to that with, “I love you, too, Mom.”

But here is where I have to confess to you that all day Thursday I thought it was Friday.  Then on Friday, I knew it was Friday because we had a heap of things to do.  But never to worry because the books weren’t coming on Friday because I had not gotten my little phone call 24 hours before delivery to tell me they were coming.  So it was okay to have a good number of things planned for the day of Fri.

However, after my quiet time on Friday I had decided to e-mail the printing company to see if they could get a tracking number for me because next week there were certain days that I could not be available for book pick up at this point.  If I could find out the expected delivery date, then I could re-arrange whatever was on the schedule.

So when she e-mailed me back at 1pm and said, “They are out for delivery today,” I nearly quit breathing…where was my 24 hour notice???!?

So I called the loading dock where they were to be delivered and gave everyone the heads up and went onto the public library for the summer reading program kick off.  And as soon as I walked into the library, my phone started ringing with an odd number.

I answered to a man’s voice telling me that he was fifteen minutes away with a delivery for me.  Was I at the delivery location?

In fifteen minutes I was!image

And so today’s post is just a rambling to say, “I have the books!”  But I have not set up my online purchasing option yet.  I am going to work on that this weekend.  I do have three (and possibly a fourth) local venders who I will deliver books to later today or Monday.

Thanks to everyone who is walking this journey with me…I am in awe of what God has done so far with this book project and I cannot wait to see what He does next!

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.  Amen.”  Ephesians 3:20-21

Thank You, Lord!

Thank You, Lord!

I apologize for the length of this post…but I had to share this story…Matthew 77Today for Wonderful Wednesday, I want to just thank the Lord!  Along each step of this self-publishing journey He has opened (and closed) doors and provided just what I needed when I needed it.  I want to share with you one example of this amazing provision from the Lord and hope it encourages you as much as it has encouraged me!

As I have taken each next step for this self-publishing journey, I have asked the Lord to direct my footsteps and to show me what to do.  One part of this journey was having the money to be able to print the books.  After much counsel and prayer, it was decided that we would need $3,600 to print the books.

Last fall when I was looking at needing that amount of money, Dustin and I decided that we would borrow the money, but rather that I would use money I earned from directing weddings to pay for the book expenses.  And the Lord provided four weddings to do in 2016 – two in March and two in the summer.  I assumed that I would begin the printing process after the summer weddings.

But in early March, I was encouraged by several people to get these books here – to get them on their way.  As I looked at the accounts, I realized that we lacked $1,200 from being able to print these books.  I also felt an urgency to get this process started.

One morning as I was reading through the book of Matthew, I came upon these familiar verses:  “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”  Matthew 7:7-8

I was convicted big time that I had planned for the book’s printing, but I had not asked the Lord – I had not sought Him like I should have for this provision.  I just assumed His provision was the upcoming wedding work.

So on that Friday morning, I prayed, “Lord, I feel like you want me to get this book process started ASAP…but I also know that we still need $1,200 to start this process.  So I am giving this financial need to you and if you want us to go ahead and print them, then I am asking you to provide $1,200.  And if not, that is fine too…I just want to be in Your will.”

And I left it at that.  I knew I had given it to the Lord and He could do what He wanted to…I honestly expected that to be the end of that.

But two days later on Sunday morning, a young man in our congregation came up to Dustin and said, “I have been praying about your book process and the Lord laid it on my heart to give you some money to support this project.”  And he handed Dustin a white envelope with cash in it.  $505 American dollars to be exact. Everybody’s Named Daniel!

Everybody’s Named Daniel!

I have been a little busy these last few weeks with two weddings that I helped to plan and direct.  My hope was that the proceeds from these events would fund the printing process of self-publishing this book, but God had other plans which I will share soon.

Anyway, so as I was directing these weddings, I started to see a common theme, the name Daniel.

Father of the Bride:  Daniel

Sound Tech (for BOTH weddings):  Daniel

Groomsman:  Daniel

And if it wasn’t their first name, then some people even had it for their last name!
I was surrounded with Daniels all these last few weeks.

And I really think there were a few more, but I realized two things as I kept having to interact with all these Daniels.

Number One Lesson Learned:  Daniel is a much more popular name than I realized when we chose the name for our son.

Number Two Lesson Learned:  While I was surrounded with living Daniels, I was constantly reminded of my Daniel in heaven.  Partially because I am have been amazed at God’s provision to fund my book project in ways I had not anticipated (again, more later).  But because in the midst of getting all the “T’s” crossed and the “I’s” dotted for these weddings, I was going over I Have a Brother with a fine tooth comb and making sure I had done everything needed to be ready to send it off…

And obviously reading the story over and over again, reminds me of the days when it really happened…and I am so thankful to be on this side of the journey, but I am so thankful for the Lord’s goodness to me throughout this journey…He has been so good and I am so thankful!

So that is where we have been these last few weeks.  I hope to blog a few times each week and share where we are on the self-publishing journey and also to share more about God’s goodness to us through life.  God is good – even when we cannot see what He is doing.

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

The Book

The Book

Last year the Lord gave me a story.  Actually He gave it to me a few years ago.

And I pretty much responded to the Lord with, “What a novel idea!”  (Pun intended)

Fast forward to December 2014.   I had to have a little outpatient operation to remove a growth that was supposed to be non-cancerous, but “let’s just remove it to be sure.”

The book idea came back to mind and I made a deal with the Lord.
Let’s just press the pause button on the story for a brief second while I tell you, “It is not only bad idea to make deals with the Lord, but it is also wrong.  Just obey the Lord and trust Him.”  (And sing the hymn if it will help you remember…”Trust and obey, for there is no other way….”)

Unpause.

So the deal was this, “If the growth is not cancerous, I will set about writing out the story you have given to me.”  Read more
