The Dream

The Dream

After talking with many mothers who have lost an infant, many have said that the child born right after their loss, has a special, strange connection to that deceased child.

I found that little tidbit to be very interesting, but could not imagine how it might pan out in our family.

Eighteen months after Daniel died, I gave birth to a baby girl with large eyes.  Bless her…she gets the large eyes honestly.  She is growing into them…

When Little Bo Peepers was between two and three years of age, she came to me one Sunday morning as I was getting everything and everybody ready for church (and I think our littlest lady was a baby) and told me matter of factly that she had had a dream.  I cannot remember her exact words, but they went something like this:

Her:  I had a dream last night.  Ruthie and I were playing ball with two boys.  One was Daniel because he told me his name.  The other boy didn’t have a name.  But he is my brother too.  He would like it if you would give him a name.

Me:  (eyebrows furrowed) Tell me that again, please.

Her:  I had a dream last night.  Ruthie and I were playing ball with two boys.  One was Daniel because he told me his name.  The other boy didn’t have a name.  But he is my brother too.  He would like it if you would give him a name.

Me:  What color hair did Daniel have?

Her:  My color hair.

Me:  How tall was Daniel?

Her:  He was taller than me but shorter than Ruthie.

Me:  What color was the other boy’s hair?

Her:  Your color.

Me:  How tall was he?

Her:  He was about the same size as Daniel.  Maybe a little shorter.

Me:  And how did you know their names.

Her:  (Agitated with the questions) Because they told me.

She turned and walked down the hallway.  And I just went into our bedroom and cried.

Had the Lord just allowed me to know that my sons were okay in heaven?  My sons…there were two of them, not just one…really, Lord!?!  Was this from You?

I was overcome with emotion.  I had heard of this happening, but did it just happen to me?

After I had let the tears flow, I just praised the Lord for the dream He had given to our daughter.  He knew that I needed to hear that – to see what she saw through her eyes.

And I have praised Him since that day – I cannot explain everything, but I know that He did not have to give us the dream, but He did…and for that I am thankful.

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,”

Philippians 3:20
